Tarunya Dharmarajan is a high school senior and youth advocate for responsible technology, working towards creating safer digital spaces for the younger generation. Tarunya began her journey by working for a state senate campaign, where she spoke with constituents on the impact of technology in their community. Growing up in Silicon Valley, she has had a front-row seat to the profound effect technology has on society - both its benefits and its challenges. Her early exposure to these dynamics inspired her to dive deeper into tech policy, leading her to become a Fellow in Civics Unplugged’s Digital Citizen Fellowship. There, she conducted research and wrote on the societal implications of emerging technologies, including extended reality, artificial intelligence, and social media. Currently, Tarunya serves as a Youth Advisory Commission member for ConnectSafely, where she weighs in on how legislation can enhance digital environments for younger users, advocating for platforms that are safe and productive. Tarunya plans to pursue a career at the intersection of law and technology, with aspirations of becoming a lawyer and policymaker. Her goal is to influence the creation of well-informed policies that ensure technological innovations are developed in ways that protect and empower future generations.
